Brick paving and retaining walls

Paving is the part of a landscape that has to survive Michigan winters without moving. Almost all of that is decided before the first paver goes down.
A patio that heaves and a wall that leans have the same cause: not enough was done underneath. Excavation depth, a compacted aggregate base and proper drainage are what separate paving that still looks right in ten years from paving that needs relaying in three.
Patios, walkways and driveways
Circular and running-bond patios, front walks, and driveways in brick pavers, cut in and edge-restrained so the pattern holds. Borders are laid to frame the space rather than just finish it.
Walls that hold the grade
Where a property changes level we build retaining walls in block or natural limestone, backfilled and drained so water moves through the wall instead of pushing against it.
