A cleanup is the job that makes every other job on a property possible. Until the debris is gone, nobody can see what they are actually working with.
Corner lots collect everything. Leaves blow in off two streets, limbs come down over the winter and nothing gets picked up until somebody turns up with a truck and starts loading. This one had been left through a full season before we were called.
Working the ground as we found it
The ground was still partly frozen when we started, which changes how much you can lift and how much you tear up getting it. We cleared the large limbs first, then the leaf litter, then the loose rubbish, and cut the edges back once there was something to cut against.
Twice a year is the point
Most properties want this in spring and again in fall. Spring clears what the winter left and gets light back to the grass. Fall takes the leaf load off before it mats down and kills the lawn underneath it. Everything we take out goes with us.
